Students

Welcome to Viva!’s Teach Vegan, a unique programme dedicated to educating young minds about the world of veganism.

We are here to help support you in creating a more inclusive, understanding school environment for staff and students alike. Teach Vegan is about discovering a lifestyle that not only good for you, but also for our planet and all of the creatures who call it a home.

Why veganism?

Have you ever wondered where the food on your plate comes from? Or how your personal choices can make a difference? Veganism is so much more than just a diet; It is a way of living which promotes kindness, sustainability and compassion.

Compassion for all

Viva! aims to create a kinder, more sustainable world. Every being deserves respect and kindness, and Viva! campaigns to expose factory farming, where animals spend their short lives in misery, imprisoned in squalor and exploited for human use. By adopting a plant based diet, this allows animals to thrive in their natural habitats without facing exploitation.

Nourishing our bodies

A vegan diet is packed with nutritious foods that provide all the essential nutrients your body needs to grow healthy and strong! Viva! Health is on-hand to support people on their journey into veganism, taking the latest scientific papers and making them accessible for everyone, creating factsheets and combatting misinformation about health and nutrition.

Protecting our planet

Choosing plant based can drastically help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water, and protect our oceans. Livestock farming is, essentially destroying our planet. Animal agriculture is at the heart of almost every huge environmental catastrophe including the climate crisis. We encourage people to move towards less resource-intensive diets, by choosing vegan.

What to Expect from Teach Vegan

Inspiring School Speakers

Viva! has trained secondary school speakers who are prepared to give talks to your class free of charge on the topic of veganism and any area surrounding these topics. Talks may include subjects such as:

  • Does the treatment of animals used for food matter?
  • What is the impact of factory farming on animals and society?
  • The impact of animal farming on our global environment.
  • Why is the avoidance of animal products increasing in the UK and why is society changing?

These talks help to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge to explore these key political and social issues critically, to weight evidence, debate and help them to make reasoned arguments.

Viva! Has been giving school talks across the UK for almost 30 years!

Engaging Cookery Demonstrations

Our speakers would be delighted to give a cookery demonstration to your students. This may help your class understand how to use, for example, alternative sources of protein and how to adapt meat-meals for a vegan family member…. its super simple to make a meat meal into a vegan meal with so many alternatives on the market!

The cost of each demonstration is £10 and can be paid by XX (this small cost is towards the cost of ingredients for your class)
