We’re delighted to tell you that the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation (VVF) has trained school speakers who are prepared to give talks to your class free of charge. The VVF is a charity dedicated to promoting a diet that benefits human health. All our speakers are trained to give talks that are suitable for the intended age range and which cover key aspects of the curriculum.
The highly acclaimed video/DVD, Food For Life (updated 2007), was produced specifically for GCSE Food Technology students and can be shown at talks. A typical talk might be:
1. Introduction
2. Definitions of a vegetarian
3. Different types of vegetarians
4. Vegetarian health and nutrition
5. Reasons why people go vegetarian
6. Reasons why people don’t go vegetarian
7. DVD
8. Discussion
We are happy to accommodate your wishes and your requirements are discussed beforehand.
Cookery Demonstrations
Some of our speakers are also fantastic vegetarian cooks and would be delighted to give a cookery demonstration. This may help your class understand how to use, for example, alternative sources of protein and how to adapt meat-meals for a vegetarian family member. The cost of each demonstration is £10 (which you should give to the speaker on the day) and covers the cost of the ingredients. The class can sample the food at the end.
